The Future Buddha Maitreya Flanked by the Eighth Dalai Lama and His Tutor

这件堆绣唐卡于1793年由第八世达赖喇嘛（1758–1804）委托制作，以纪念其经师耶喜·嘉措（Yeshe Gyaltsen）的圆寂。此唐卡为达赖喇嘛私人所用，曾悬挂于其在拉萨的私家佛堂中。西藏以大型唐卡著称，其制作工艺包括绘画、编织、刺绣或堆绣等多种技法。画面中央主尊为弥勒菩萨，其特征为金色身相、发髻中的小型佛塔以及双手结转法轮印。弥勒菩萨被称为未来佛，将于释迦牟尼佛之后降生人间成佛。在此之前，他安住于兜率天宫，在此宣说佛法。弥勒菩萨上方为宗喀巴大师（1357–1419），即藏传佛教格鲁派（黄教）的创始人。
