弥勒菩薩像
佛教于公元六世纪传入日本。对于早期的日本信徒而言,佛教提供了一种通过信仰未来佛(即弥勒佛)获得救度的希望——这位佛陀将在世界末日前降临。永恒救度的理念尤其引起了日本贵族的共鸣,他们因此成为这一新信仰最坚定的支持者。像这尊小型造像,兼具温柔优雅与庄严威仪,在当时是很受欢迎的礼拜对象。
