The Eleven-Headed Bodhisattva Kannon

The compassionate Buddhist god Kannon appears in this world in various forms to save people from suffering. In this form, he uses his eleven heads to search for people in need of salvation. This image of Kannon was carved in the 800s, shortly after wood became the preferred material for statues due to its abundance and workability.
